The Villa

Villa Front Approach

From the moment you ascend the gently curving entry steps to the house, you pass through beautifully landscaped gardens to the entry pavilion. As you glimpse the sea at the top of the steps, you may begin to appreciate the dramatic setting and serenity of this tropical retreat.

Through the garden, a path leads to a stone seating area with breathtaking views of the cliffs & water below, while from the natural field beyond lie further dramatic vistas of the sea from high above centuries-worn rock ledges leading to the water. Framing the setting are numerous towering Norfolk pines that began their lives as small family Christmas trees over the past 24 years.

Dining Caribbean Style

As you pass through the entry pavilion, pathways fan out to Aslantic House’s accommodations and many travertine terraces. To the right is the dining pavilion overlooking both the gardens and seaside cliffs with their “blow hole,” one of only several in the entire British Virgin Islands.

In times of heavy sea surges, ocean waves are compressed into thundering explosions of water shooting up to 150 feet into the air, often creating their own rainbows.

One can sit for hours watching this unbelievable waterworks display known throughout the islands.

On calm days, this secluded niche becomes an equally mesmerizing natural marine aquarium whose clear waters reveal a variety of tropical fish, sea turtles, and diving birds.

Main Entry Hall

Main Building

The main entry hall with its vaulted ceiling passes by the gourmet kitchen with large center island, granite counter tops, professional Viking range, wine cooler, two dishwashers and cavernous fridge – perfect for creating everything from lavish feasts to enticing Caribbean cocktails.

Villa Dining Hall

Not only a gourmet’s paradise, it also becomes a gathering place for family and friends.

From the hall one enters the living area of the main building that is attractively fitted with indirect soffit lighting and high airy plantation style exposed wood ceilings.

The adjoining dining area features a large glass topped table that will comfortably seat 8 guests and is situated to provide a pleasant breeze.

Living Room & Pation

Cool limestone floors and large French doors lead from the living area to another shaded terrace which features a large dining table with views through the trees west along the Tortola coast.

The architectural style of the house’s main building is carried throughout the compound, creating a cool, inviting, and comfortable setting for your stay.

Location & Setting

While Aslantic House’s unique location offers unusual privacy, it also allows easy access to the rest of the island and is perfectly placed for whatever you want to do.

Just twelve minutes from the airport, it is also only five minutes over the mountain from a variety of grocery, superb fish, and convenience stores.

To reach Road Town, the capitol of the BVI, one has a choice of taking the Ridge Road which runs along the spine of the mountain that extends the length of Tortola or the scenic coastal Blackburn ‘Highway.’

Either way, it’s less than a thirty-minute trip.

Some of the island’s finest dining is located not far away along the coast road towards Road Town.

With Aslantic House’s spectacular promontory setting, one is constantly tempted between views out to sea, over to Guana island, down to Little Bay, over to Lambert Beach, or straight down to the blow hole which offers dramatic displays varying from Nature’s own views of the calm depths below to its towering explosions of water.

Little Bay Tortola

Half moon-shaped Little Bay is one of the most inviting beaches on the island.

Its waters offer snorkeling, occasional surfing, and on most often calm days, a paradise for swimming.

Nestled just back from the shore among the sea grape trees is the convenient, round stone beach house that contains floats, beach chairs and umbrellas.

Villa Pool Pavillion

Pool Pavilion

Just eleven steps below the main building is the pool pavilion that serves as the principal common living area.

Spacious and open with unusually high ceilings, it is equipped with its own wet bar, fridge, icemaker, visual & sound system, and library of books and games.Swimming Pool & Pavillion

From the terrace at its end, atop a dramatic 30 foot stone wall, one can see for miles down Tortola’s north shore to Jost Van Dyke some 14 miles away.

Here, too, you can keep an eye on those in your party who have chosen Little Bay beach, just a short walk down a gently sloping, shaded path.

Angus

In the evening over cocktails, you can watch spectacular ocean sunsets from this vantage point.

Angus, our faithful Border Collie who was so much a part of our family vacations, sadly now watches over Aslantic House in spirit only.
